Helen Maria Trumbull (1840-1904)

Helen Maria Trumbull was born in East Craftsbury on August 4, 1840. It is quite likely that her grandfather Trumbull was living in her father’s house when Helen was born, since he died there on August 24. The family moved to Canada either that fall or the next spring. Helen would begin her schooling in Canada and she completed it in the Logan County schools after her parents had moved to Ohio. She, too, attended Geneva College, as a member of the class of 1860. Helen taught school in Logan County for twelve years. She spent the next four years in her parents’ home, probably caring for them as both parents died during that period of time. After her mother’s death, Helen went to Kansas City, quite likely on the invitation of her brother. Since she was still a comparatively young woman, it is probable that she found a job and worked for the next six years. On May 18, 1882, she married Colonel James F. True of Newman, Kansas, a widower with four children. His daughter Dr. Mabelle True helped to discover some information in Los Angeles concerning Robert Trumbull’s three daughters. She corresponded with Elizabeth Austin, a descendant of Clarissa Trumbull White.

Helen Trumbull True died in Newman, Kansas, on April 25, 1904.  [ other version has April 28]
